Cancer Screenings Cancer ScreeningsEarly detection is the #1 resource available to help prevent and fight cancer. That's why Reid Hospital has several screenings available for men that help to do just that!
Colon & Rectal Cancer Screenings
Starting at age 50, all men are at an average risk of developing colon or rectal cancer. Fortunately, there are several screening options available that can easily detect early stages of cancer or polyps that could develop into cancer. Our screening recommendations are as follows:
- Perform a yearly fecal occult blood test. These are tests are done at home and can be purchased at the Pharmacy. You may also obtain a take-home testing kit by contacting our Community Education department at (765) 983-3094.
- Those who have a family history of colon cancer or polyps should follow these guidelines more closely. You should also be more closely monitored if you have a history of chronic inflammatory bowel syndrome.
Prostate Cancer Screenings
Beginning at age 40, every man should have a digital rectal exam (DRE) along with a PSA blood test. This will detect any abnormalities or elevations. These tests will become a yearly exam after age 50.
For more information on our Cancer Care Program, contact Kelly Witter RN, MSN, Director of Oncology or call (765) 983-3455.
