Sleep Disorders

Does it take you a long time to fall asleep at night? Have you been told you snore?  Do you wake up still feeling tired after a full night's sleep?  Sleepless nights can be brought on by a number of things.  Insomnia caused by stress, snoring so loud you're woken by your spouse - or even yourself, and many more!

While it is estimated that more than 40 million Americans have some type of sleep disorder, most never receive treatment. The truth is, if a sleep disorder is left untreated for long periods of time, the damage could far exceed just making you drowsy during the day. It can also cause high blood pressure, an increased heart rate and even heart disease.

One of the most dangerous sleep disorders affecting men is sleep apnea. Often associated with loud snoring, sleep apnea causes the upper part of the throat to relax during rest, narrowing your airway and starving the heart and brain of oxygen. Most men don't even realize they have sleep apnea until their spouse wakes up and notices them gasping for air in the middle of the night.

At Reid Hospital, our state-of-the-art Sleep Diagnostic Center helps diagnose and treat sleep disorders such as this.  In addition to providing you with helpful information, we also have an online quiz that will call to light some areas of concern.  If you answer yes to any of these questions, you could have a sleep disorder and benefit from careful evaluation in our quiet and calming Sleep Center.
