Chemotherapy
| Chemotherapy Chemotherapy is a cancer-fighting medicine taken intravenously (administered by vein) or by mouth. The medication travels through the bloodstream and attacks the cancer cells throughout the entire body with the goal of killing the cancer cells or preventing the growth of more cancer cells.
Your medical oncologist will determine which medication is required to treat your specific cancer. Sometimes the physician may prescribe a single medication or a combination of drugs for a chemotherapy regime. Chemotherapy is usually given in cycles, and is administered over a period of time - sometimes days or weeks between doses. A typical chemotherapy cycle usually lasts three to six months, but depending on the stage and type of cancer you have, this can be adjusted.
