Reid Technology

When we began planning the new hospital, one of our priorities was to provide high-quality medical care through the latest and best technologies. For example, staff members are using electronic vein viewers that make drawing blood easier on the patient and more efficient.  Additional technology highlights that improve our patient care include:

da Vinci® Robot - Until recently, your two options for surgery included a traditional operation with a large open incision or laparoscopy - which uses small incisions, but is limited to certain procedures. Thanks to a recent breakthrough in technology, however, Reid now offers a third option - the da Vinci Surgical System. Because it's not as invasive as the alternatives, you'll experience less pain, a shorter hospital stay, a faster return to normal activities and a potentially better outcome!

This proven-effective procedure expands and enhances your surgeon's capabilities through a sophisticated robotic platform. With da Vinci, small incisions are used to insert miniaturized instruments and a high-definition 3D camera. At the controls is your surgeon, viewing a magnified, high-resolution 3D image of the surgical site.  From this vantage point, your surgeon can scale, filter and seamlessly translate his or her hand movements into precise micro-movements of the da Vinci instruments.

'Sensei' robotics -This system is designed to give our Surgeons accurate and stable control of catheter movement during complex cardiac procedures performed to diagnose patients suffering from abnormal heart rhythms or arrhythmias.

Balloon Sinuplasty - "Relieva Balloon SinuplastyTM" devices are FDA approved and catheter-based technologies used in sinus surgery. The technology is used to gently open blocked sinusus in  many cases without tissue or bone removal required in traditional procedures. The procedure is proving a safe and effective treatment for relieving symptoms of sinusitis. It can shorten recovering time, mean less bleeding and a faster return to normal activities for some patients.

Audio-visual MRI - Our audiovisual system is proving to help patients relax while having an MRI. The system provides the patient with their own enclosed TV visor and sound system that closes out the sounds of the technology while they watch their favorite show or relaxation video. For patients who are made nervous by traditional MRIs, this technology has already reduced the need for relaxation medication that some require before having an MRI.

Vocera Call System - When a patient needs a nurse, the call button doesn't ring to a station down the hall; it rings directly to their primary caregiver through a "Star Trek" like lapel communication system. If that caregiver isn't immediately available, it will automatically go to the next appropriate caregiver. The system, combined with paging that mostly operates through telephones, provides a more peaceful environment and minimal overhead paging.

Digital Breast Center - Our Breast Center offers all-digital technology which is found in less than 10 percent of similar centers nationally. Digital imaging offers greater accuracy, making it possible to detect problems in their earliest stages.  MammoSite® 5-day Targeted Radiation Therapy is available at Reid.  For those who qualify, this targeted therapy helps reduce the radiation delivered to healthy tissue.

Patient Education System - Every room has a bedside system, Reid NET, that provides patients with a computer, television and educational system.  It allows patients to access the Internet, play games, watch movies and TV from their bed.  Physicians will also be able to call up patient charts or images directly from the bedside to discuss with their patients.

State-of-the-art Security - Reid has also upgraded its security system in our Mother-Baby Care Center and Pediatric unit. Parents can now rest easy with our special infant protection system.  If someone is attempting to take your child out of the Mother-Baby Care Center or Pediatric unit, or if the child's security bracelet simply falls off, the security system activates and automatically locks all hospital entrances until the welfare of the child has been confirmed.
