Jackie Carberry, Secretary/Treasurer
Jackie Carberry and her husband, Alan, moved to Richmond in 1991 from northern Indiana, falling in love with the local architecture and history of Wayne County. For many years, Jackie sold antiques while Alan worked in Brookville, Ohio, as an electrical engineer. In 1995, they turned an idea into a reality as they launched Warm Glow Candle Company in Centerville. After a lot of work, hours and pitfalls, the business is still growing today.
Jackie loves -- when not working -- spending time with her two grandchildren, garden and relaxing at Brookville Lake.
“We are still interested in local history and feel very blessed to find our home here in Richmond, Wayne County,” Jackie said.
Jackie joined the Reid Hospital Foundation Board of Directors in 2009. She serves on the Special Events committee and was an integral part of the Foundation’s first BRAvo!.

Jon Ford
A member of both the Reid Foundation board and Reid Hospital governing board, Ford has been given the opportunity to see health care from several perspectives.
"I wear a hat as a potential customer and look at the care we provide from a personal standpoint." Before his retirement as plant manager at Purina Mills, he also had the perspective of a community employer.
"Health care is a major budget item in most companies and board members should be sensitive to that." But in his role as board member, he also has had to examine budgets, capital expenditures and make sure that the decisions were good decisions for Reid as well as the community.
Reid's decision to build a new hospital required him to wear all those hats. "People don't want to travel outside of their community to get health care," Ford said, "and we want to keep our rates low and still provide the highest rate of quality."
Reid President Craig Kinyon said, "Jon is an outstanding board member. He thinks with a wonderful blend of his head, heart and faith."
Since retiring, volunteering has become somewhat of a second career - one he takes very seriously. "People need to have a passion for what they do, whether they are a truck driver, an assembly line worker or a health care provider," Ford said. "When you don't have passion, a job is just a job and the results will show it.
"At Reid, passion comes out in different ways all the time. I have seen this as family members received treatment, and I have seen it when people go out of their way to walk someone to their destination. People at Reid go above and beyond."
Ford's passion for Reid is perhaps only surpassed by his love of family and his strong faith. He and his wife, Judy, preside over a family of five children, and 12 grandchildren, who are scattered from South Carolina, to Pennsylvania, Indiana, Montana and Alaska. The Fords' other family is their church - Christ Presbyterian Church - where Jon is an elder.
Because his career took the Fords all over the country, their children grew up in different areas, and some settled in those spots. "Our children all like each other, and we make a concentrated effort to get the entire family together at least every two years." Because four of the five children worked at Glacier National Park in their college years, that has been a favorite gathering spot.

Craig Kinyon, Reid President
What is "mission?" Does it apply to organizations? Is it necessary? Does it really matter?
The Reid Hospital & Health Care Services' team has strong feelings about these questions. We are convinced that mission matters. In fact, it matters a great deal. Mission is what keeps us on course. We live during stressful and complex times when it is all too easy to lose our way. We can become so preoccupied with "doing" that we forget the "who, the what and the why." Individuals, families and teams like Reid Hospital's need to be grounded so that external changes do not cause us to abandon the core reasons we exist.
From a leadership team standpoint, mission is the glue, the shared set of values and beliefs that bind us together. It is individual commitment strengthened by sharing. It is shared commitment about who we are, why we exist and what we stand for. A key word in all of this is the word shared; values that are shared by all members of the Reid team... employees, volunteers, physicians, governing board and Foundation board members and the administrative staff that serve them.
The time the Reid team spends talking about mission is an investment to ensure we do not lose our way... an investment to strengthen our ministry to people who are broken and an investment in people who look to us to assist them in their efforts to achieve wholeness... in body, mind and spirit. Our mission is lived, humbly and proudly.

John McBride
John McBride is a committed board member of both the Foundation Board of Directors as well as the Reid governing board. Prior to his move to Richmond, McBride served on a hospital board in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He brings his many years of business and community leadership to Reid, which has proven to be a valuable resource to the organization.
"I always felt that healthcare was an important part of the community," McBride says. "It is everyone's business and one of the most complex issues we handle."
As President and CEO of West End Bank, McBride recognizes the economic challenges healthcare providers face. He credits the sound financial practices of both Reid Hospital and the support of Reid Foundation to the growth seen in the past few years in spite of difficult circumstances. "Many hospitals across the country completely stopped building projects when the markets crashed," he says. "But with philanthropic support and the foresight of Reid leadership, Richmond has a beautiful new healthcare campus."
McBride goes on to explain that in today's economy, the government seems to want to be more involved in healthcare. However they are more and more restrictive with funds. Therefore it is eminent that we rely on philanthropy to continue providing the highest quality of care to area residents.
People choose to give to Reid Foundation for various reasons. Some give because they recognize Reid to be a financially sound organization that is among the top-ranked hospitals in the state. Others give because of a personal success after experiencing the care provided. McBride has his own personal success at Reid after recovering from heart surgery just two years ago.
"As exciting as it was to give toward the physical structure of the new Reid campus, the next phase of giving is just as exciting. The upcoming 'I Am Thankful' campaign is all about the quality of care provided by our physicians and staff and the successful outcomes seen by the patients they serve."
McBride strongly believes that when people give with their hearts, everyone wins.

Linda Paust
Linda Paust is one to let her actions speak for her. The Chair of Reid Foundation, Paust is in her ninth and final year of her board tenure. "I had always been impressed with Reid quality - that includes campus appearance, medical service received and the financial status maintained over many years. So, after serving in a few other positions throughout the community, I thought this would be a positive board to try, and it certainly has been," said Paust.
During her time as a member of the Board, Linda witnessed many milestones. Of those accomplishments she cites the Foundation's transfer of $46 million as the most memorable. "The transfer to the New Reid project was unforgettable. The fact that we had the funds available was amazing. Then for the entire board to support the transfer was awesome."
Paust also took an active role in the For Our Future capital campaign. Of the campaign she said, "The unfolding and the quick blossoming of the capital campaign has been an incredible experience. I have been most pleased with the unique approach to this campaign - it truly is "For Our Future,' and the raising of $4.5 million from within the Reid family is a tribute to Reid and its service. Actions do speak louder than words."
"Linda has been a true blessing. She is in our office every week - sometimes two or three times. Her loyalty and dedication to Reid, the Foundation, and her colleagues is extraordinary. The success of the campaign is a direct result of the quality board we have, and she is our leader," said Foundation President Randy Kirk.
A former teacher at Northeastern High School, Linda is active in the community, including stints on the Urban Enterprise Board, Richmond Redevelopment Commission, and the Whitewater Opera Board. Linda and her husband, Ken - who serves as County Commissioner - are also involved in local politics.
"Community work is exceedingly important. It involves doing good works which serve a community well; it allows a community to thrive and grow and creates ownership and pride. In all, it makes a community a better place to live," said Paust.
